MD Helicopters 900 Explorer

The MD 900 Explorer was quite revolutionary when it was released in the mid-1990's and to this day has some very distinctive and unique features. The Explorer was a great success in the utility and medical arena with it's practical and versatile design features proving popular. The most notable feature for the MD Explorer are its NOTAR (no tail rotor) System, which uses pressurised air along and around the tail boom to counter torque, unlike a conventional tail rotor. In addition the MD900 has a small rotor disc for off field landing in confined areas and a surprisingly large cabin for an aircraft of its size. The MD Explorer is slower than aircraft such as the AW109 and never really gained much success in the VIP market, it however still remains great value and performance for the utility role.
