MD Helicopters 900 Explorer 902

The MD 900 Explorer was quite revolutionary when it was released in the mid-1990's and to this day has some very distinctive and unique features. The Explorer was a great success in the utility and medical arena with it's practical and versatile design features proving popular. The most notable feature for the MD Explorer are its NOTAR (no tail rotor) System, which uses pressurised air along and around the tail boom to counter torque, unlike a conventional tail rotor. In addition the MD900 has a small rotor disc for off field landing in confined areas and a surprisingly large cabin for an aircraft of its size. The MD902 is the last of the civilian 900 series produced. It benefits from greater power developed by the Pratt & Whitney PW206 engines and avionics upgrades.
